Dr Christine Parker (July 2005 – January 2006)
Dr Parker is Senior Lecturer at the Law Faculty, University of Melbourne. Dr Parker is currently one of the leading researchers on corporate compliance and regulatory enforcement, and her work is well known with the United Kingdom. Her book, ‘The Open Corporation’, is the only detailed study on corporate compliance programmes that has been conducted and is seen as essential reading for and one seeking to understand corporate responses to regulation, and an important contribution to the debate on corporate social responsibility. During her visit to Oxford, Dr Parker will be working on a research project focusing on the enforcement approaches of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The project is valuable in that it goes beyond the usual scope of enforcement studies, which focus only on enforcement activity by the agency or individual officials within it, and seeks to understand corporate responses to that same enforcement process.
