Huanqing Yao (May - August 2011)

Dr. Huanqing Yao is an Associate Professor at Renmin University Law School, a position he has held since May 2003. From 1996 - 2003 he was an Assistant Professor and taught courses in IPR law, fundamental civil law, copyright law, debts & contracts and divisional contract law. He received his LLM in 1996 and his PhD in 2003, both from Renmin University.

Since October 2000 Dr. Yao has been a full time researcher at the university's Civil & Commercial Law Research Center, which is designated as the Key Research Institute (KRI) of China. He has held several editorial positions, including Chief Editor of the China Civil and Commercial Law website, Assistant Editor to China Judicial Case Review (Civil Law Volume), and Arbitrator to the Arbitration Commission of the Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. He has also served as Legal Counsel to the Xinhua News Agency. During his stay at the Centre Dr. Yao will be working closely with PCMLP on the study of freedom of expression in the network environment, specifically the protection and restriction of the freedom of speech in cyberspace.
