Getting to the Centre:

The Centre is housed within the Manor Road Building, along with the Centre for Criminological Research and a number of departments within the Social Sciences Division. The building contains the Social Sciences Library and is directly next to the Law Library and the offices of the Law Faculty in St Cross Street. Manor Road is about half a mile to the north east of the city centre.

Getting to Oxford by car:

Oxford has a very efficient Park & Ride service that serves north, south, east and west of the city. For details click click here. For additional parking information in the city centre click here.

Getting to Oxford by train:

Oxford is well served by direct trains from London and other major cities in the UK. London trains depart from Paddington Station.

Getting to Oxford by coach:

Oxford benefits from frequent and inexpensive coach services from London. Two companies, the Oxford Express and Oxford Tube, run 24 hour services from Victoria Train & Coach Station in London. All coaches, including domestic coach services by National Express, arrive at Oxford’s Gloucester Green terminal.

Getting to the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies:

The Centre is housed within the University’s new Social Sciences building in Manor Road along with the Centre for Criminological Research, and a number of departments of the Social Sciences division. The building contains the new Social Science Library and is directly next to the Law Library and the offices of the Law Faculty. Manor Road is about half a mile to the north east of the city centre.

Although there are plenty of taxis available at the train and coach stations, reaching the Social Sciences building on foot can be a very pleasant walk through the historic city. Likewise, if you have travelled in by the Park & Ride bus service, you are set down at designated points which are within easy walking distance.

Accommodation in Oxford:

Oxford provides all types of accommodation, from traditional English bed & breakfast to first class hotels. If you are anticipating an overnight visit to the Centre, we may be able to provide advice on the best options.

Longer term visitors may also look into accommodation through one of the many private rental agencies, such as Beckmann Property Management, Finders Keepers or QB Management. Getting to the Centre for Socio-legal Studies in Manor Road from the set down points of the Park & Ride bus service.

Water Eaton: (approx. 0.65 miles)
You need to alight at the set down point in Broad Street. Walk along Broad Street (the same direction that the bus was travelling) which opens up into a very wide space (hence its name). You pass by Trinity College entrance and Blackwells on the left and the Sheldonian Theatre on the right before coming to a set of traffic lights. Go straight over here, where the Kings Arm pub is on the left corner, into Holywell Street. You pass the Holywell Music Rooms (on the left) and then reach Mansfield Road on the left. Turn here, cross over to the right hand side and turn right into Jowett Walk. At the end of this road turn left into St Cross Road. At the pedestrian crossing, go over the road continuing on until you reach Manor Road on the right. Turn here and approximately 100 metres down on the left hand side is the entrance to the Social Sciences building. At a leisurely pace this journey should take you

Pear Tree: (approx. 0.70 miles)
You need to alight at the set down point at the end of St’ Giles just before Broad Street. Turn left into Broad Street, which opens up into a very wide space (hence its name). You pass by Trinity College entrance and Blackwells on the left and the Sheldonian Theatre on the right before coming to a set of traffic lights. You pass the Holywell Music Rooms (on the left) and then reach Mansfield Road on the left. Turn here, cross over to the right hand side and turn right into Jowett Walk. At the end of this road turn left into St Cross Road. At the pedestrian crossing, go over the road continuing on until you reach Manor Road on the right. Turn here and approximately 100 metres down on the left hand side is the entrance to the Social Sciences building.

Thornhill, Seacourt & Redbridge: (approx. 0.50 miles)
You need to alight at Queens Lane in the High Street. Head away from the city centre towards Magdalen College & Magdalen Bridge (for Thornhill passengers this will be back in the direction the bus came from; for Seacourt & Redbridge passengers this will be in the same direction the bus is travelling). The first road on the left in called Longwall Street. Turn down here and follow the road as it turns to the left and then right. You pass Hollywell Street and Jowett Walk, both on your left. Just after Jowett Walk there is a pedestrian crossing. Cross over it and continue on until you reach Manor Road on the right. Turn here and approximately 100 metres down on the left hand side is the entrance to the Social Sciences building.

Getting to the Centre for Socio-legal Studies in Manor Road from the train station (approx. 1.2 miles) & coach station (approx. 0.85 miles)

Upon exiting the TRAIN STATION, turn left into Hythe Bridge Street and pass by the Said Business School on your left. Follow the footpath straight ahead, across the traffic lights continuing along Hythe Bridge Street. Go to the end, passing over the canal bridge where you come to a pedestrian crossing. Cross here and then turn left into George Street.

On your left in George Street is the COACH STATION. (If you are departing the coach station, exit at this point – where the coaches turn in – and turn left into George Street).

Continue on up George Street passing the cinema and the theatre until you reach the traffic lights at the end. Go directly across here into Broad Street.

Broad Street opens up into a very wide space (hence its name). You pass by Trinity College and Blackwells on the left and the Sheldonian Theatre on the right before coming to another set of traffic lights.
