Asma is currently reading for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Law at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Oxford. Her research investigates the role of law in protecting copyright and privacy interests in Online Social Networking Sites. She is also a part-time law lecturer in Jurisprudence at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London.
Prior to joining the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, Asma was appointed as a Bar Vocational Course Lecturer at the Inns of Court School of Law (now known as The City Law School) and lectured in Civil Advocacy, Opinion Writing, Legal Research, Civil Litigation & Evidence, Commercial Law, Company Law, Drafting and Negotiations.
Before that, following the successful completion of her pupillage, she practised as a commercial barrister specialising in all aspects of Commercial Law including Corporate Finance, Acquisition Finance, Intellectual Property, Information Technology, Telecommunications, E-Commerce, Re/Insurance and Contract.
Research Interests:
- Legal and regulatory issues presented by all aspects of cyberspace (including the participative web) in the US, EU, and UK.
- Protection of copyright and privacy interests in the Digital Age.
- Socio-legal theories (e.g. Foucault, Valverde, Levi).
- Science and Technology Studies (e.g. Latour, Callon) and their impact on traditional regulatory models.
